Here are 32 things that Coach Shane O’Leary has learned in his 32 years!
- You’re never too old to push yourself. For my birthday I did a high ropes and zip-lining course. I’m more of a land mammal than a heights person, but man did I learn how far I can take my body if I learn to quieten my mind.
- Don’t wear shorts that have a small tear when you also need to wear a harness. I am glad no squirrels were around as for about 5 minutes…a nut was out.
- Birthdays are more about experiences and memories now than just getting “stuff”…though I will always love receiving “stuff”.
- Find someone who laughs at you and makes you smile endlessly. Then appreciate the hell out of them.
- Walking in the sand with your feet in the water is relaxing AF.
- Don’t underestimate the power of great songs to sing for long car rides.
- Yes, time is limited, but don’t rush the time you have.
- Surround yourself with people who help you up but also push you to be better.
- 32 lessons is harder to think about than you realise.
- A year is a very long time if you make the most of it.
- Be thankful if someone is willing to pay you for help. L&Z, all the MN fam and past clients and friends, this is at you.
- You can’t please everyone, so stop trying to.
- If you get injured or things hurt, deal with it. Don’t be too stubborn to not address a weakness.
- Never assume what someone thinks, it’s likely not about you anyway.
- Make time for friends and family, it’s lonely otherwise.
- Reading, playing, and self-guided education is underrated.
- Time is the biggest healer but the slowest to work.
- Don’t blame yourself for not knowing, we all start somewhere.
- Any question. It’s the fastest way to learn.
- If you make a choice and it doesn’t work, you still made a choice. Well done.
- Sometimes you have to really suck at something before it finally makes sense, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.
- Money is easy to make and easy to spend. It’s a tool for growth and compounds massively over time.
- If you’re under 30 or new to a job, the biggest thing you have to give is time. Being sought after and ‘successful’ will come later.
- Knowledge and experience are both important, usually one will give you more of the other.
- Don’t rush quality.
- You may not even know your biggest strengths yet. That’s ok.
- If you do, don’t be afraid to use them.
- If you don’t know what you want to do in life, do a little of everything and find what you love.
- Relationships take work. If you don’t want to lose it, invest in it.
- Always say goodbye to your cat/dog when you leave and say hello when you get home. To them, you are everything.
- Sex. Coffee. The simple things in life are usually the best…and better if you can get all three.
- It’s your life, so live it how you wish to leave it, but be kind to those around you. A little can go a long way to make someone else’s day as well.
